Ruler of the pool: Clippers' Kent captures two events at state meet

KINGSTON — Cumberland High junior Courtney Kent explained Saturday afternoon that she hadn’t really “tapered” for these R.I. Interscholastic Swimming Championships.
In essence, that just means she hadn’t cut down on the amount of practice yardage she swims day-in and day-out as a member of Crimson Aquatics, based out of Cambridge. A slice in distance, a swimmer always hopes, results in faster times due to the body’s ability to recuperate.

Pawtucket artist and garden designer Mike Bryce, whose studio is located at 1005 Main St., paints colorful tiles for his painted garden called "Serenity" - a Rhode Island day trip from historic Providence to the tranquil shores of Block Island, at the Rhode Island Spring Flower & Garden Show at the Convention Center in Providence Friday. The show runs through Sunday.

Council supports expansion of arts district

PAWTUCKET — In an effort to encourage reuse of more of the city's vacant mills or underutilized commercial buildings, the City Council is supporting legislation that would expand the “arts and entertainment district” that offers an exemption from sales tax on original works sold by individuals working in arts-related fields.
