Tri-Force MMA's Pete Jeffrey returns to action

February 2, 2012

PAWTUCKET — The past 15 months have felt like 15 years to Pete Jeffrey.
It’s been 15 long months since the veteran lightweight and the co-owner of Tri-Force MMA in Pawtucket has stepped into the octagon for a fight, and the last time fans saw him in action, on Sept. 17, 2010, he electrified a sellout crowd at the Twin River Event Center by recording a huge third-round TKO of previously-undefeated Saul “The Spider” Almeida.

Div. II may be most interesting boys' hoop league

Division II might be the most interesting basketball league in the state. Too bad the Interscholastic League picked this year to drop division tournaments in favor of one open tourney to culminate the hoops season.
Take a look at Division II right now. Rogers High of Newport and West Warwick lead the way with identical 11-1 records. Rogers walloped the Wizards 64-41 on Wednesday night. The Vikings’ only loss this season came at the hands of a Shea High squad that is 9-3 and just added a 6-foot-6 center to its lineup.

Kids go green at lunchtime

LINCOLN — Central Elementary School fourth-grader Maggie Cabana didn't want to let down her fellow students, so she decided to prepare her Wednesday lunch the night before.
“I made it at about 7:30 (p.m.); I made my peanut butter crackers, strawberries and an orange with the peel taken off, then put them all in plastic containers,” she admitted. “I did it so I wouldn't forget anything. I was scared that I'd put it into plastic bags. I didn't want to forget that's against the rules (for this lunch).”
