Tolman hockey program faces final season

PAWTUCKET — One look at Tolman High’s roster and the questions immediately surface.
First of all, where are the underclassmen on it? Did someone forget to type their names on the roster? After all, there are only 13 players on it. You can’t possibly skate a hockey team with that many players, can you?
Well, after two weekends of action, the Tigers are proof that, yes, you can skate, and do so successfully, with a number that low.

Galeria United is a haven for local artisans

PAWTUCKET — The city of artists now has a welcoming, downtown gallery space to showcase and sell handmade creations.
Galeria United, an international art and design center, opened recently at 200 Main Street. Owner Tina Melo-Kufner, a Pawtucket native who lived and worked as a fashion designer in Europe for several decades, has fulfilled a longtime vision of running a place that would be part gallery, part haven and part teaching facility for artists and those who aspire to be.

Police to update computer system

CUMBERLAND — The Town Council unanimously approved a resolution Wednesday night authorizing Mayor Daniel J. McKee and the police department to purchase new desktops and related equipment as part of a department-wide overhaul of its computer systems.
The $23,635 to purchase the new computers will not come from town funds, but rather a 2009 COPS law enforcement technology grant.
