East Providence coaches back in business after receiving payment

EAST PROVIDENCE — Call it a case of all’s well that ends well.
Three days after putting their collective foot down, the fall sports’ coaches at East Providence High School received payment for their services on Monday morning. Townie athletic director Paul Amaral received confirmation from interim superintendant Dr. John DeGoes that the checks were available for pick up and distribution.
“Paul handed me my check, and that was that,” stated Alex Butler, the head coach for boys’ basketball and girls’ volleyball at East Providence.

PC Friars welcome fresh faces Dunn, Johnson with open arms

PROVIDENCE — There are games against more noteworthy opponents on the horizon, yet it’s probably a safe bet to assume that Providence College basketball fans have been eyeing Tuesday’s game against Colgate for quite some time.
The night will feature the long-anticipated debuts of two Friars. In freshman Kris Dunn, PC is hitching its wagon to a point guard, a critical position that suffered a major hit when Vincent Council went down in a heap in the season opener. In sophomore Sidiki Johnson, the Friars are receiving a rugged 6-foot-10 sort who’s expected shore up the low post.

CENTRAL FALLS - Duarte M. Santos, 81 of Central Falls died Sunday at the Philip Hulitar Impatient Center surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Maria A. (DaSilva) Santos. Born in Sao Miguel, Azores, he was the son of the late Antonio and Rosa (Pacheco) dosSantos. Duarte came to the US in 1970 and settled in Cambridge. He has been a Central Falls resident since 1973.
Prior to his retirement in 1993 he was a kitchen worker at Providence College for 12 years.

PAWTUCKET - James Kacharo, 78, a retired Pawtucket Police Officer, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, December 16, 2012. He was the beloved husband of Ann Marie (Corr) Kacharo for forty-five years. A lifelong resident of Pawtucket, he was a son of the late Denno and Adrienne (Tsatacos) Kacharo.

ATTLEBORO - Walter T. Stadnicki 98, of Canterbury Woods and formerly of Hastings Avenue Pawtucket passed away Thursday December 13, 2012 at his residence. He was the beloved husband of the late Genevieve A. (Poholek) Stadnicki. They were married for 70 years and wintered in Florida for 30 years.
Born in Pawtucket he was a son of the late Charles and Apolonia (Blecharczyk) Stadnicki.
Before retiring Walter owned and operated Stad Distributing of Pawtucket for 50 years.

PAWTUCKET - Anthony Zeromski 87, passed away Friday December 14, 2012 at Evergreen House in East Providence.
Born in Attleboro he was a son of the late Victor and Michalina (Majzuk) Zuromski.
Before retiring he was employed as an Inspector of Fine Metals.
Anthony was a WWII Army Veteran and a member of the Fierlit-Korzen A.L. Post 79 of Central Falls.
He leaves one brother Chester Zuromski and his wife Dorothy of Riverside, nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Stanley Zeromski and Charles Zuromski.

PAWTUCKET - Eleanor M. (Roach) Lapierre, 97, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 15, 2012. She was the beloved wife of the late Raymond W. Lapierre. Born in Pawtucket, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Margaret (Kelly) Roach. Eleanor was an avid Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots fan as well as an avid golfer at Stone-E-Lea Golf Course, Attleboro.

PAWTUCKET - Ana C. Ferreira, 92, beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother died peacefully in her home in Pawtucket, December 13, 2012. She is predeceased by; her parents, Fernando Castelo and Margarida Forte, her brother Mauricio Castelo all of Alvendre, Portugal, and her brother Belmiro Castelo of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
After many years of work in the garment workers Industry, Ana retired and became an avid gardener. Her roses and Dahlias ere renowned for their beauty. Ana's flowers made the world a prettier place.

CENTRAL FALLS: Theresa B. LaPlante, 91, formerly a longtime Aetna St. resident passed peacefully on December 14th. She was the wife of the late Gerard P. LaPlante.
Born in Pawtucket, she was a daughter of the late Arthur and Marie-Reine (Tessier) Beaudoin.
Theresa had been employed by the former Coats and Clark and then worked for Texas Instruments of Attleboro for 15 years before retiring in 1975.
