Diossa wins in landslide

CENTRAL FALLS — Having emerged from bankruptcy, ready to shake off the one-man rule of state receivership and the nearly decade-long administration of a disgraced mayor who is headed to jail on a corruption charge, this tiny, poverty-ridden city signaled it is ready for a new beginning Tuesday by electing its first Latino mayor, native son James Diossa, who defeated Joseph Moran, the popular former police chief, 62 to 38 percent in a special election.

Slater Junior High in lockdown while 'gun sighting' probed

PAWTUCKET — In the end, there was no gun, but a student's telling a teacher that another student indicated he might have such a weapon resulted in a lockdown at Slater Junior High School on Tuesday morning, police said.
According to Pawtucket Police Capt. John Seebeck, two juvenile males who attend Slater Junior High had gotten into a verbal altercation outside of the McDonald's restaurant on Lonsdale Avenue prior to the start of school.

Gary DiSarcina to become PawSox' manager

PAWTUCKET – The next manager of the Pawtucket Red Sox is a familiar face to New England baseball fans.
A baseball source confirmed Tuesday that former big-league infielder Gary DiSarcina will be formally introduced as the PawSox’ skipper at a press conference scheduled for Friday at McCoy Stadium. The 45-year-old DiSarcina replaces Arnie Beyeler, who was named Boston’s first-base coach last month.

PAWTUCKET - Beatrice Dupuis, 91, of Pawtucket, passed away Tuesday, December 10, 2012. She was the wife of the late Albert G. Dupuis.
Born in East Rindge, New Hampshire, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Louise (Aube) Lavoie.
Relatives and friends are invited to a Committal Service Thursday, December 13, 2012 at 11am in the Chapel at Swan Point Cemetery, Providence. Arrangements by Costigan-O'Neill Funeral Home, Pawtucket.

Rudolph Delpivo

EAST HARTFORD, CT - Rudolph Delpivo, 86, beloved widower of Zulmira (Estevens) Delpivo, of East Hartford, passed away on December 9, 2012 at his home, after a brief illness, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Pawtucket, son of the late Ercole and Regina (Eusevi) Delpivo.
Rudolph graduated from West Pawtucket Sr. High School in 1944, and attended the University of Rhode Island, he moved to Windsor Locks, and later to East Hartford where he lived for over 25 years.
