PROVIDENCE â€” Changes in membership and divisional alignment are in store for Division I softball come the next two seasons.
At Mondayâ€™s Principals' Committee on Athletics meeting, the R.I. Interscholastic Leagueâ€™s governing body approved unanimously (10-0) to form one Division I softball league featuring 17 teams. Two of those 17 teams include newcomers Tolman and Woonsocket, both of whom have competed in Division II in recent seasons.
Walter V. Sanita, Jr.
EAST PROVIDENCE - Walter V. Sanita, Jr. 68 of Sterling Street died Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at Miriam Hospital.
Born in Providence he was a son of the late Walter V. and Angelina (Zarra) Sanita. Walter was a devoted Catholic.
He leaves three nieces, Nicole Babcock, Jennifer Silva and Kimberly Silva; one great niece, Adrianna Silva; one great nephew, Henry Girard and one brother in law, William Silva. He was the brother of the late Ann Silva.
Elaine S. Barbary
PAWTUCKET - Elaine S. Barbary, 84, of Chandler Ave. Pawtucket died November 17, 2012. She was born in Philadelphia, PA. Daughter of the late Joezeph Bosak, Laura (Kempchinsky) Ribeiro and step father Frank Ribeiro. Elaine was an avid gardener, amateur photographer and "mayor of Chandler Avenue".
NORTH SCITUATE - David Bradbury, 60, entered into eternal life on Friday, November 16, 2012. He was the beloved husband of Karen A. (O'Brien) Bradbury for 37 years.
EAST PROVIDENCE â€” The Ten Mile River Bridges in East Providence reopened to traffic Friday, a year ahead of schedule.
Originally scheduled to reopen in late 2013, the Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) was able to work with the contractor to reduce the closure to less than one year, RIDOT officials said yesterday.
