Clippers take pride in aiding breast cancer awareness

CUMBERLAND -- Cumberland High head coach John Jasionowski admitted being both surprised and impressed when a representative of the American Cancer Society attended a state interscholastic tennis meeting last spring.
“She asked us if we wanted to have some kind of event for cancer awareness, and I thought it was a good idea,” Jasionowski stated while his Clippers warmed up for a Division II crossover match against Classical on Tuesday afternoon.

Dine Central Falls to celebrate city

CENTRAL FALLS — It may be the smallest city in the smallest state, but Central Falls is home to more than 30 unique restaurants, many serving authentic ethnic cuisine from eight different nations.
The first-ever Dine Central Falls will celebrate the city’s dining scene this month, showcasing a variety of fare, from Colombian to Mexican and Chinese to classic comfort food. On Oct. 18-20 , 10 restaurants will offer special deals.

CUMBERLAND - Lorraine E. Mulligan, 89, formerly of Central Falls, died peacefully at the Grandview Center, Cumberland on Friday, October 5, 2012.
She was born in Attleboro, MA, the daughter of the late Paul and Leah (Gingras) Lee and lived most of her life in the Blackstone Valley area. Mrs. Mulligan was employed as a nursing assistant in many local facilities and in private homes. She was an active member of the former Notre Dame Church where she sang in the choir and served as a Eucharistic Minister and lay reader.

PAWTUCKET - Anna Magdalene Newton, 96, originally from Pawtucket and Smithfield, RI, passed away on August 30, 2012, at her residence in Forest, VA, surrounded by family and friends. She was born in Pawtucket, RI on August 15, 1916, the daughter of the late George P. and Mary Ann (Brennan) Arsenault.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by: her husband of 66 years, Arthur Newton of Smithfield, RI; her son, Albert W. Newton of Wickford, RI; two sisters: Dorothy M. Coderre, of North Attleboro, MA and Helen V. St. Martin of Lutz, Florida.

PAWTUCKET - Irene R. (Brin) Godek, 92, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 7, 2012. She was the beloved wife of the late Murphy Godek, Sr. for 54 years.
Born in Central Falls, she was one of five children of the late Romeo and Ester (Hamil) Brin. Irene enjoyed spending time outdoors and loved nature, but most of all she was a devoted mother to the end.
