PAWTUCKET â€” Despite a last minute plea by the union to stop it, the Purchasing Board voted 3 to 2 Tuesday night to award the bid for the cityâ€™s trash and recycling services to a private contractor, MTG Disposal of Seekonk, Mass.
The vote to approve drew an immediate reaction from dozens of city sanitation workers and other members of Local 1012, who hurled angry comments and harsh words at the members of the Purchasing Board.
Many also voiced their displeasure at Mayor Donald Grebien, who did not attend the meeting despite being an ad hoc member of the Purchasing Board.
WILMINGTON, OHIO - Lorraine Shoultz, age 80, of Wilmington, Ohio, passed away Saturday afternoon, October 20, 2012 at her residence in Wilmington, Ohio.
She was born March 24, 1932 in Rehobeth, Rhode Island, daughter of the late Gilbert J. & Priscilla (Needham) Pelletier Sr. On June 6, 1952, she married Paul Fredick Shoultz, who died December 18, 1987.
Lorraine had worked as a Cashier for Kroger and was a member of the St. Columbkille Cath. Church, Wilmington.

PAWTUCKET - John H. Famiglietti, Sr., 78, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, October 23, 2012. He was the beloved husband of Madeline E. (Handy) Famiglietti for 57 years.

CUMBERLAND - Lillian R. (Hulme) McGowan passed away peacefully October 23, 2012. At 100 years of age, Lillian was ready to enjoy eternity with her beloved Bill and the Blessed Mother, both of whom shared in her devotion.
In God's gardens, Lillian may once again tend the flowers and write her poetry or sit in the sun while she quilts. A corner bower will house a baby grand for her music. And every sun-gray day, Lillian's loving legacy of 6 children, 16 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren and 7 great, great grandchildren will hold her in our hearts.
Karen Burgess Rose
RHODE ISLAND - Loving wife, mother & Grammy, Karen Rose died after fighting peritoneal cancer for more than two years. She entered her reward in heaven from her home surrounded by family. Karen was born on October 26, 1947 in Attleboro, Massachusetts to the late Henry Konrad and Virginia Bora Burgess.
She spent her early years traveling with her father as a Coast Guard family. As the first born child with four younger boys in the family, Karen began her life-long hallmark of caring for others by helping to raise her brothers.

EAST PROVIDENCE - Ruth E. (Clarkson) Doctor, 92, of Newman Avenue, Rumford and formerly of Pawtucket died Saturday, October 20, 2012 at the Memorial Hospital of Rhode Island, Pawtucket. She was the wife of the late Edmond H. Doctor.
Born in Pawtucket, a daughter of the late Charles and Blanche (McKeon) Clarkson, she had lived in Pawtucket for most of her life before moving to Rumford 11 years ago.
Mrs. Doctor was the owner of a ceramic studio before retiring. She had previously worked in a drug store.
CUMBERLAND - Ethel (Gibbons) Nicholas, 88, of Pound Road died Wednesday, October 17, 2012 at St. Antoine Residence, North Smithfield. She was the wife of the late William R. Nicholas.
Born in Providence, a daughter of the late James and Sarah (Stones) Gibbons, she had lived in Cumberland for most of her life.

CUMBERLAND - Eugene J. Picard Jr., 57, formerly of Cumberland, died October 9th. Born in Pawtucket he was a son the late Eugene J. and Theresa (Carpenter) Picard Bozzo.
Mr. Picard was an Army veteran of the Viet Nam War.
His brother Robert J. Picard and his wife Kimberly of Johnston, his sisters Cynthia M. Colannino of Three Rivers, MA and Deborah A. Connors of Warwick, his nieces Meaghan E. Colannino, Abigail L. Gilbert, Lauryn T. Picard and Brooke E. Picard survive him.

PAWTUCKET - Maria T. (Botelho) Cabral, 74, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 22, 2012. She was the beloved wife of the late Manuel S. Cabral.
Born in the Azores, Portugal, she was the daughter of the late Joao and Maria (Julia) Botelho. Maria leaves three sons, Manuel D. Cabral and his wife, Margarita of Cumberland, John G. Cabral and his wife, Eduarda of Exeter and Joe M. Cabral and his wife, Carol of Harrisville; seven grandchildren; three brothers, John, Manuel and Joe Botelho and many nieces and nephews.
CENTRAL FALLS - Mrs. Theresa (Chrupcala) Vecoli, 94, died Sunday, October 21, 2012 at Baptist Village Retirement Communities after an extended illness. She was the wife of the late Al Vecoli.
Born in Fall River, she lived in Central Falls and later Jacksonville, Florida for many years. She was employed by Peninsula Pest Control in Jacksonville. She served in the US Army during WWII as a 1st Sergeant. Theresa was a daughter of the late John and Barbara Chrupcala.

PAWTUCKET - Edgar (Eddie) J. Robinson, 73, of Pawtucket, RI and Boynton Beach, FL, Owner of Eds Town lounge in Pawtucket, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 21, 2012. Born on April 5, 1939, he was a son of the late Edgar J. Robinson and Dorothy (Deragon) Gadoury.
Edgar was a U.S. Navy Veteran.
