Pawtucket solicits bids on security cameras

PAWTUCKET — In an effort to cut down on crime and vandalism in the city's parking garage, the downtown, Slater Park and other municipal properties, the city is seeking proposals from vendors to install security cameras at various locations.
According to a request for proposals that went out last month, the city is seeking a company to design and install a video surveillance camera system at key sites throughout the city.

Cops for Kids with Cancer helps Maya

CUMBERLAND — Representatives of Cops For Kids With Cancer Wednesday presented a $5,000 donation to the parents of Maya Spadano, a 3½-year-old Cumberland girl who has been battling leukemia.
Robert Faherty, chairman of the charity’s Board of Directors, along with Director John McManus, officially presented the check to the Spadano family at the Cumberland police station.
Cops For Kids With Cancer, a small non-profit organization made of law enforcement incur when their children are diagnosed with cancer.

PAWTUCKET - Martin H "Marty" O'Brien Jr., 70, of Grand Avenue, Pawtucket died Monday, January 16, 2012 after a fifteen year battle with cancer. Marty was the husband of Carol (Roberge) O'Brien.
Mr. O'Brien was born in Providence, the son of the late Martin H O'Brien Sr and Cecilia A. (Coyne) O'Brien. He was a salesman for the Rumford Supply Company for many years.
Marty truly enjoyed sitting in his yard and tending to his flowers and the birds they encouraged to visit.

PAWTUCKET - Ronald J. Davis, "Ron" 51, passed unexpected on January 17th. He was the husband of Denise A. (Plouff) Davis.
Born in Central Falls a son of Beatrice (Cartwright) Davis of Pawtucket and the late Alfred Davis.
Ron had been employed as a truck driver for many years.
Besides his wife he is survived by two daughters, Rebecca "Bekki" Davis and Samantha Davis, both of Pawtucket, a grandson, Joseph, 2 brothers, Alfred and Clifford Davis, 2 sisters, Cathy Rodriguez and Judy Massey and many nieces and nephews.

Shea routs Mariners

PAWTUCKET — Shea High played dictator during Tuesday night’s Division II romp over Narragansett. The Raiders dictated how the game would be played and the Mariners followed along, usually a step too slow to keep up with the talented and speedy home team.
Sparked by Eli Itkin’s career-high 24 points, and a virtuoso performance by point guard Jordy Brito (18 points, 8 assists), the Raiders romped to a 71-48 victory that improved them to 6-2 in Division II-Central.

Saints hold off Sentinels

SMITHFIELD — Tuesday night proved to be a valuable learning experience for St. Raphael Academy, particularly for the second unit.
With Charles Correa, Cesar Mejia and the rest of the first teamers resting comfortably on the bench, Tom “Saar” Sorrentine turned to Kaseem Sams, Jordan Peguero, Zach and Nick Mays and Darshaun Vargas. The sight of seeing Correa and Mejia sporting warmups and sipping Gatorade must have been heaven to Smithfield, which trailed 59-41 when Sorrentine called off the hounds.
