PAWTUCKET â€“ Itâ€™s often viewed as the last frontier for young hitters to conquer, that of strike-zone recognition. In Alex Hassanâ€™s case, the promising Red Sox outfield prospect is well ahead of the curve, so much so that some of his peers could stand to benefit from his calculated attack.
PAWTUCKET --- Alex Wilson knows all about the rags-to-riches tale of Kurt Warner, the former Super Bowl-winning St. Louis Rams quarterback and NFL MVP, who just a few years prior to his breakout â€™99 season, had worked part-time as a stockboy at a supermarket during his climb to stardom.
Thatâ€™s because from October to December, the Boston Red Sox prospect had spent his weekday mornings making a few extra bucks by stocking shelves at a Loweâ€™s home improvement store near his Hurricane, W.V. residence.
Lawrence J. Jette Sr.
PAWTUCKET - Lawrence J. Jette Sr., 85, husband of the late Rita A (Magnant) Jette, died in Plymouth Ma. on December 23, 2011. He had previously lived in Pawtucket, RI for most of his life. He was the son of the late Lillian Lawson and Joseph Jette.
Ted P. Gibola
CUMBERLAND - Ted P. Gibola 93, passed away Monday January 9, 2012 at Mt. St. Rita Health Care Center.
Born in Central Falls he was a son of the late Walter and Margaret (Hus) Gibola. He was a life long resident of Cumberland.
Before retiring in 1983 he was employed for 21 years as an Electrical Inspector for the Road and Bridge Dept. of the RI Dept. of Transportation.
Ted was a WW II Army Veteran and a member of the American Legion.
Walter E. Gontarski
PAWTUCKET - Walter E. "CHIEF" Gontarski 62, passed away Friday January 13, 2012 at Rhode Island Hospital.
Born in Pawtucket he was a son of the late Walter and Alice A. (Gadziala) Gontarski. He lived in Pawtucket all of his life.
Before retiring he was employed as an Extruder for Carol Cable Co.
Chief was a member of the Polish American Mutual Benefit Association of Pawtucket and was an avid sports fan and card player.
