PAWTUCKET — In its first regular meeting since the start of the new school year, the School Committee discussed the mixed enrollment figures and outlined an ambitious set of district-wide goals aimed at improving student performance.

City may seek back taxes from fire chief

PAWTUCKET – Mayor Don Grebien and City Solicitor Frank Milos met Thursday morning to review State Police documents regarding the fact that Lime Rock Fire Chief Frank Sylvester housed and registered at least one personal vehicle at the district's Station 1 on Great Road for approximately 23 years.
After that meeting, Grebien indicated his administration is in the process of researching just how much Sylvester may owe the city in back taxes, and that it may pursue them.

Tolman battles Smithfield to 2-2 soccer tie

PAWTUCKET — If Thursday’s Division II-North showdown between unbeaten Tolman and once-tied Smithfield is any indication, the postseason playoffs are going to be fun to watch.
Defending D-II champion Smithfield dominated the first half of this matchup with Tolman, taking a 2-0 lead on goals by Mark Marino and Tim Cabral. The Sentinels’ defense held the high-powered Tigers’ offense to one shot in the first half.
