Man pleads guilty to carjacking in Pawtucket

PROVIDENCE – Attorney General Peter F. Kilmartin announced that Eric Tipple has pleaded guilty to charges in the July 20, 2010 carjacking of a 72-year-old woman in the CVS/pharmacy parking lot on Smithfield Avenue, Pawtucket.
Tipple, 24, whose last known address is on Obed Avenue, North Providence, pleaded guilty to one count of first-degree robbery before Superior Court Magistrate William J. McAtee, who sentenced him to 30 years with 18 to serve, with the remainder suspended with probation.

E.P. police probing suspicious car fire

EAST PROVIDENCE – Police continue to investigate a suspicious car fire that occurred Thursday night near the corner of Dearborn and Ormond drives in Riverside.
A female car owner/victim indicated to Officer Charles Walkup that she didn't see or hear anyone in the area at the time of the blaze. A witness, however, indicated she observed a dark-colored, newer-model vehicle – perhaps a Mazda – with Rhode Island plates proceeding slowly past the heavily-damaged vehicle shortly after 9:30 p.m.

Lincoln faces Smithfield tonight in District 4 clash

LINCOLN — The Lincoln All-Stars have dominated pool play the first three games of the season, outscoring their rivals by a 31-1 margin.
When his unbeaten squad finishes up its slate in Pool A on Saturday night, Lincoln coach Matt Netto isn’t expecting similar results against equally-unbeaten Smithfield (3-0) at Randy Hien Memorial Field.
