PAWTUCKET â Tim Norton has spent the better part of his professional career battling back from countless injuries. His latest setback is akin to the baseball gods kicking a man when heâs down.
The homecoming originally planned for this weekend never happened. Norton did not pitch at McCoy Stadium for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre before friends and family hailing from Burrillville. Instead, the 28-year-old is toiling under the hot sun in Tampa, Fla., the Yankeesâ spring-training facility â Steinbrenner Field â the scene of Nortonâs latest attempt to rehab from shoulder woes.
EAST PROVIDENCE â Mike Kirby knows all about rivalries, and how opponents may try to gain a psychological advantage. But this 20-year-old Townie also knows how to nip it in the bud.
The issue began while he and his four teammates, those making up âThe Bowling Academy All-Stars,â warmed up during a practice round last Friday night, just 12 hours before the start of the 38th annual National Duckpin Youth Championships at the AMF Southwest Lanes in Linthicum, Md.
