Clippers finally get the better of Lions

PROVIDENCE --- It’s been said time and time again that it’s tough to beat a team three times in a season, and on Wednesday night, Lincoln High realized how difficult a task that is in its Division I losers’ bracket final with longtime nemesis Cumberland High.
After getting swept in their regular-season series with the Lions, the Clippers made sure their third time playing their rivals was indeed the charm.

Pawtucket looks to dip into funds

PROVIDENCE — Antonio Pires, a special fiscal advisor to Pawtucket Mayor Donald Grebien, returned to his old stomping ground, the House Finance Committee hearing room, Tuesday seeking permission for the city to dip into its fire prevention and cemetery perpetual care accounts to help shore up a looming $6.5 million deficit.
Pires, a former state representative from Pawtucket, was a longtime chairman of the House Finance Committee.

Richards, Sykes are tops at Seekonk High

SEEKONK — When Ashley Richards began her freshman year at Seekonk High School in September 2007, she set her academic goals with only success in mind.
“It wasn't that I tried hard to be the valedictorian; I just studied hard for myself because I wanted to do well and get into a great school,” explained Richards, who finished her scholastic career with a superb 4.0 unweighted grade-point average (4.5 weighted with Advanced Placement courses and the like.
“I worked so hard, and made a lot of sacrifices,” she added. “Being the valedictorian means a lot to me.”
