PROVIDENCE — As he wrapped up his first press conference as Providence College’s new basketball coach, Ed Cooley was asked about his first order of business.

“Recruit, recruit, recruit,” was Cooley’s quick-to-the-point response.

PROVIDENCE – One could walk out of Alumni Hall draped in confidence that Providence College got it right this time.
That was Ed Cooley’s biggest accomplishment on Wednesday afternoon. He gave a fan base a reason to hope again. The Providence native is coming home to breath fresh air into a program that is begging for a turnaround, and he appears the correct guy for the job.

Business owners vent over bridge project

PAWTUCKET — A dozen or so angry business owners with property located in the construction and detour zone around the Pawtucket I-95 bridge replacement project vented their frustrations at a March 14 meeting with state and local officials at City Hall.

WARWICK - Genevieve H. Pupecki 88, of Lemac Street passed away Monday March 21, 2011 at Kent Hospital.
Born in Providence she was a daughter of the late Stanislaw and Helena (Buznacka) Pupecki. She lived in Warwick for the past 10 years and was formerly of Cranston.
She was a volunteer at Meals On Wheels of Cranston and was a member of the Johnston Senior Center.
She leaves 1 loving sister Sophie "Phyllis" Muro of Warwick and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Stanley, Joseph and Walter Pupecki.

LINCOLN - Charlotte C. Ethier, 85, of Lincoln, died Tuesday at The Holiday Retirement Center surrounded by her family. She was the wife of the late Raymond O. Ethier Sr.
Born in Pawtucket, she was a daughter of the late Albert and Gertrude (St. Louis) Alix.

ALBION - Ernest J. "Ernie" Jacques, 78, of School St., Albion, died Tuesday evening at The Holiday in Manville. He was the loving husband of Lillian (Henault) Jacques.
A lifelong resident of Albion, he was a son of the late Henry and Rosilda Jacques.
Mr. Jacques served in the Rhode Island National Guard for over 30 years. He was employed by American Tourister, Madison Industries, and BJ's Wholesale Stores.

PAWTUCKET - Joao F. DaRocha, 83, passed away Thursday, March 23, 2011 surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. DaRocha was born in St. Miguel, Azores, the son of the late Joao and Maria Isabel (Machado) DaRocha and the husband of the late Olinda E. (Costa) DaRocha.
He was a press operator at Cass Jewelry in North Providence for many years.
