9/11 tree highlights winter festival

PAWTUCKET — Winter Wonderland, always a special event in the city, will have even greater meaning this year with the addition of a “9/11” tree in Slater Park.
New to the festival will be a special tree, decorated with red, white and blue lights, that will be dedicated to the memory of those who lost their lives in the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. The tree will feature a large, lighted star that was made by Robert Machowski, Jr.

The Times kicks off Christmas Fund appeal with ‘Santa to the Stars’

PAWTUCKET — Thanks to a special visit by a world famous Santa, the Times collected the first batch of donations to kick off its 2011 Merry Christmas Fund appeal.
Santa to the Stars, also known as Pawtucket's own Brady White, once again delighted young and old alike on Monday night with his visit to the Blackstone Valley Visitor Center. As youngsters posed for photos and chatted about their Christmas wish lists with the celebrity Santa, the Times raised almost $130 for the fund, which goes toward the Salvation Army of Pawtucket.

C.F. rolls into playoffs with easy win over Lincoln

CENTRAL FALLS – There was no slippage or signs of letup. For playoff-bound Central Falls, it was simply full speed ahead.
Thursday’s 34-0 holiday win against Lincoln High was just what C.F. head coach Mo Jackson was looking for. His Warriors raced to a commanding 27-0 halftime lead behind three touchdown passes from quarterback Brandon Canuto, who completed 9-of-11 passes for 247 yards.

Clippers collect seventh win in a row

WOONOCKET – Chris Skurka had no intention on letting up.
Despite a more important playoff game early next week, the Cumberland High coach planned to have his red-hot squad go full throttle against Woonsocket in their annual Thanksgiving Day contest.
He lied. Well, sort of.
The Clippers scored four times in the first quarter, found the end zone again in the second quarter and the second-stringers get some ample playing time after halftime in cruising to a 35-6 rout of the Villa Novans on Thursday morning.
