Raymond F. Noonan
PAWTUCKET - Raymond F. Noonan, 95, of Pawtucket, died Monday, January 10, 2011 at Epoch on Blackstone. He was the husband of the late Anna (Wynne) Noonan.
Born in Pawtucket and a lifelong resident, he was the son of Edward J. Noonan and Anna J. Bowen Foley Noonan.
He was a 1932 graduate of Pawtucket High School. He graduated from Brown in 1936 and attended Harvard Law School with the class of 1939. He was captain of the 1935-36 Brown basketball team, selected for the all-New England team, and elected by his peers to the Brown all-decade team.

Born in Providence, a son of the late Stephen P. and Ellenor (Spitznagel) Hicks.
Arthur was a chef for over 50 years at various restaurants thought RI.

FLORIDA - Jeanne A. (DuBois) Gailey, 92, of Jensen Beach, FL, formerly of Dennisport, died December 27, 2010 in Palm City, FL. She was the wife of the late Raymond J. Gailey, Sr.
Born in Rhode Island, she and her husband resided there until 1973 when they moved to Cape Cod. She and her husband were avid square dancers for many years; they belonged to the Cape Cod Chowder Club, Square and Round Dancers Club in Port St. Lucie, FL.
She was former member of Cape Cod Hospital Auxiliary, Port St. Lucie Hospital Auxiliary and a volunteer at the Jensen Beach Elementary School.

Cumberland wrestlers picking up the pace

CUMBERLAND – Wrestling season inside the state of Rhode Island doesn’t really get serious until the middle of January. A few of the top teams use the first six weeks of the season to test themselves outside the state in weekend tournaments against elite competition from around New England.
That’s the route Cumberland High coach Steve Gordon has chosen over the years. This season, his defending state champions have won tournaments in Connecticut and Massachusetts before finishing third last Saturday in the prestigious Redskin Invitational up in Sanford, Maine.

Manfredo, now 30, fights Friday in Florida

PAWTUCKET --- While folks across the Northeast were bracing themselves for today’s heavy snowstorm, Peter Manfredo Jr. pulled off the great escape on Tuesday by jumping on an early flight that took him to sunny Key West, Fla.
But instead of heading to Florida to work on his tan and enjoy a pleasurable vacation, Manfredo chose business over pleasure and flew down for his next fight, Friday night’s 10-round middleweight bout against Daniel Edouard of West Palm Beach, Fla. at Mallory Square overlooking Key West Harbor.

PAWTUCKET — Academy Award nominees Viola Davis and Richard Jenkins are lending some Hollywood star power to the Mixed Magic Theatre’s year-long celebration of the 100th birthday of gospel singer Mahalia Jackson and a related series of events.
Davis, who grew up in Central Falls, and Jenkins, who spent many years at Providence’s Trinity Repertory Company and lives in Cumberland, have agreed to be honorary co-chairs as Mixed Magic kicks off its Arc of Events that centers around the legendary gospel great.
