She was born in Brava, Cape Verde Island a daughter of the late Manuel and Maria (Lopes) Spinola.She came to this country 37 years ago settling in Pawtucket.

LINCOLN - Roland A. Palin, 89, of 10 Franklin St., Lincoln, died Saturday at Woonsocket Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was the husband of the late Estelle (Jacques) Palin.
He was born in Central Falls, a son of the late Oscar and Louise (Charpentier) Palin. He had lived most of his life in Pawtucket.

PAWTUCKET: John F. "Jack" Grieve 67, died unexpectedly on November 6, 2010. He was the devoted husband of Patricia(Flynn) Grieve.
Born in Providence, a son of the late Archiebald and Catherine (McDade) Grieve. He was a lifelong Pawtucket resident.
He had been employed by Motorola for 30 years and after his retirement worked for RI Resource Recovery.

CUMBERLAND - Joseph "Boss" Antunes, 74, of Roland Street, passed away Saturday at home. He was the husband of Cristine (Tina Machado) Antunes. They had been married for 42 years.
Born in Cumberland he was the son of the late Luiz and Eliza (Gomes) Antunes.
He was a life long Cumberland resident.
Mr. Antunes was employed as a bolt forger for the former Standard Nut and Bolt Company for many years retiring in 1987.
He was a member of the United States Army during peace time.

After all, this is the place where — at age 14 — he had been abducted, beaten and raped by a warped pedophile who had a penchant for violence and sexual abuse against children.
On the contrary, Smith indicated he reveled in his return to Lincoln on this October night. Surrounded mostly by close friends during his childhood and teen-age years, Smith explained to his audience the happenings of that horrifying night — March 1, 1974 — and why he kept it a secret for over three decades.

Lincoln girls soccer team ready for playoffs

Eight teams will square off today-- weather permitting -- in the Division II playoffs. And perhaps six of them could actually win the state title that will be decided this coming Sunday at Rhode Island College.
“Our division is very close,” Lincoln coach John D’Aloisio admitted over the weekend. His Lions host North Smithfield at 4 p.m. today.
A day-long rain is in the forecast. Any games postponed today likely would be made up on Tuesday.

Division II football playoffs begin Friday night

Welcome to the Division II football playoffs, home of the complex algorithms.
For those who remember the unprecedented five-way tiebreaker of two years ago that tabulated Woonsocket as the odd team out, a refresher course on the wording of the tiebreaker formula was held after Central knocked off Chariho on Friday night. The 40-12 outcome created a three-way logjam atop the II-A standings with Central, Chariho and Johnston all sporting identical 5-2 records.

Saints ride 3-game winning streak into playoffs

PAWTUCKET – Mike Sassi knew his St. Raphael squad could not improve or hinder its playoff position heading into Saturday’s regular season finale against Ponaganset. Though the Saints were locked in as the third seed in Division II-B, that didn’t stop the head coach from digging deep into his bag of motivational tricks.
